Misika`s work focuses primarily on women`s rights. She holds a Bachelor of Journalism and a Bachelor of Laws from Delhi University. She also holds a master`s degree in law from the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (in collaboration with the University of Peace), where she studied transnational crime and justice. After graduating from law school in 2014, Mishika worked primarily with victims of domestic violence in the marginalized sector. In addition to her work as a lawyer, Mishika regularly conducts legal workshops with domestic workers living in various slums in Delhi. In 2019, Mishika founded an informal collective called “Lawyers for Detainees,” an all-India collective of lawyers working to defend the rights of citizens protesting against the establishment.

After the riots that hit Delhi in February 2020, Mishika and some of his colleagues began working closely on the issue of compensation to be paid by the state with about 400 survivors of the riots. Mishika founded Neev with the goal of making legal awareness and justice more accessible and affordable. Our country has seen a terrifying flood of humanitarian crises in recent months, from the deadly unrest that rocked northeast Delhi in February, to the increase in domestic violence during the months of lockdown, to the thousands of workers who have been waiting for weeks for the wages they still owe. The lives of countless men, women and children are at constant risk, and investigations into these human rights violations require access to free and/or affordable legal assistance. At Neev – Foundation for Legal Aid, a public non-profit foundation established in July 2020, we seek to address this need through pro bono legal services, including litigation, legal education and quasi-legal support – often overlooked in the work of unhindered access to justice – such as assistance in filing and following up on complaints against the police, the preparation of affidavits, and general hand posture through legal procedures for vulnerable parts of our society. We believe that a single action can make a difference in the community and that collective action can have a huge impact on the world. Through advocacy and awareness-raising activities, our team works tirelessly every day to do its part for the common good.
